Privacy notice
Last updated: October 17, 2026
We built this library to collect as little as possible. You can read every book without an account.
If you make a library card, we store
- your reader name (generated by us, e.g. brave-copper-otter; never your real name),
- your password, stored only as a one-way hash, and your recovery code, stored the same way,
- your age band (13–15, 16–17 or 18+), used only to choose which books to show, and any content limit you set,
- your reading progress and favorites, and when you created your card and last signed in,
- your email address, only if you choose to add one. We use it to confirm it's yours, to let you sign in with it, and to send password-reset links — nothing else: no newsletters or marketing. Emails are sent through our email provider (Hostinger). Remove it any time in your card's settings.
We do not ask for your name, phone number or birth date, and we do not sell or share your data. There are no ads and no advertising trackers.
Cookies and technical data
One cookie keeps you signed in. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse; we keep IP addresses only briefly, in counters that limit sign-in attempts, and delete them within a day. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies or personal data.
Children
Library cards are for readers 13 and older. Younger readers are welcome to read with a parent or guardian on the adult's card. If you believe a child under 13 has made a card, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can change your password, set a content limit or delete your card at any time from your card's settings; deleting removes all of your data. Questions: info@knownstep.com.
