About Japanese
Kwaidan (1904) is a collection of old Japanese ghost stories and legends, gathered and retold in English by Lafcadio Hearn, a writer who settled in Japan and became a Japanese citizen. Its tales include the blind musician Hoichi, who sings for an audience of the dead, and the snow woman Yuki-onna.
Our edition retells five of its tales, each as its own illustrated, narrated chapter.
